21 Day Spiritual Journey: Day 3

One of our leadership training specialists sent this out to a bunch of us the other day.

Dear Jay,

What dream have you long since given up on?
Take some time today to look back on the dreams you have had and what stopped you from pursuing those dreams.  Take 1 step this week towards fulfilling those dreams.
Out of this question I have made a thought web of dreams and goals. In prayer I am realizing I haven’t given up on my dreams. I am just afraid to pay the price and wind up failing anyway.
So today I am taking authority over my fear of failure and am casting my cares on the Lord.
I am asking Jesus to help me to count the cost for my dreams and  to pay it.
What will your dreams cost? Are you ready to pay the price?

First Forray 2013

A few years back God told me I would be doing some travelling. He told me with every journey I was to seek His purpose in it.

This week my daughters and I traveled to PA to visit my son.

Our purpose was to reconnect with each other…and to catch up on some long neglected reading. I think I read about a hundred blogs!

We arrived late Sunday night; So after a good night’s sleep and a hearty breakfast the girls and I met up with Joe at his campus and headed out to…

100_1032The Shady Maple! My son was soooo happy to see my daughters.

100_1037Joe has become quite a young man. I am proud of him! Part of our reconnect on this brief journey was to find out his plans after graduation. It is hard to believe he is just short months away from that date and from the title Pastor Joe.

Here are some of our other pictures from that trip:

Pastor Wrinkles: The Glory Of Story Pt. 7

We have made two points through the preceding posts about God’s glorious story called Earth:

1. God is the central figure and hero of His story

2. He has chosen you and me to be important character in the story. We have important parts to play.

But there is a third point in all this…

You must intentionally choose to carry out your part of the story and there is a price you have to pay for your part.

Poet, Edgar A. Guest wrote
You are the person who has to decide. Whether you’ll do it or toss it aside; you are the person who makes up your mind. Whether you’ll lead or will linger behind. Whether you’ll try for the goal that’s afar. Or just be contented to stay where you are.

Have you made a decision to play the part God has given you? Have you estimated the cost of that part yet?

“If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.

28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you,30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’

31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples. Luke 14: 26-33 NIV

We have been talking about God’s story and our part in it… If you have missed the discussions they can be found here:

For some reason God has ordained that we should play an essential role in His story…the story that He is writing. He has gone to every length to include us in the story even after we had excluded ourselves from it by sin. You see, the main theme of God’s story is love reaching out personally and individually to you and to me.

Further, it is not just mankind that it is important it is every man. God has created you personally for relationship with him. You play an important part in the story of God andin the story of planet Earth. God has put you on the Earth for exactly this time and HE has put the gifts inside you that you need to accomplish your part of the adventure.

St. Augustine said “To fall in love with God is the greatest romance; to seek him the greatest adventure; to find him, the greatest human achievement.”

Do you see yourself as part of God’s adventure? What part do you play in it?

Quotes Pt. 29

“Sometimes it takes falling apart to see exactly how or what loosened the mortar. Sometimes we find we are responsible for the how & the what. As unpleasant as it is when it happens, one cannot help but appreciate these times for what you learn serves as a beacon. Of course this is only half the battle. Which means you're already half way there.” ― Colleen Truscott Fry

I’ve been thinking a lot about roads I’ve walked down. The “How’d I get heres?” and “What if I had chosen differentlies?” have been many. Maybe it’s the turn of the New Year. The season calls us naturally to reflection…reevaluation.

I’ve made a lot of mistakes. The roots of those errors go back years and I feel like I’m just getting a grip on how the actions of the young J have effected this old J. In the midst of it all I am being swallowed alive by this grace that will not let me go.  I don’t understand how, yet I know that Jesus has all well in hand. He is using the life of this poor sinner made saint for His glory. In the midst of the reducing I have walked through Jesus has made me all His. My failures and faults He has absorbed into His mercy. He has made my mess a message!

Most laws condemn the soul and pronounce sentence. The result of the law of my God is perfect. It condemns but forgives. It restores - more than abundantly - what it takes away. Author: Jim Elliot

If he did it for me, HE will most assuredly do it for you!

Never give up. No matter what has been lost God can restore!

Ringing In the New Year Pt. 4

Sometimes the best way to launch a new venture is by capitalizing on the victories of the past.  I am determined to believe great things of 2013 in spite of the significant challenges I see ahead. For the God who did such great things in 2012 is still the God of this moment and of all the moments that lie ahead. His power is not diminished by our national debt, or by the threat of winter storm G—– coming soon to a state near you. In the face of future tragedies his love will not pale or lose its potency. He is God, Alpha and Omega, Beginning and the End. He is the same yesterday today and forever! Let’s believe Him for big things in 2013 as we thank Him for what He did in 2012.

Here is a brief list of my Thanksgivings for 2012:

1. I am thankful that God met my sister’s budgetary needs so she could move to The Netherlands for the work of missions.

Share Your World With Cee Cee Pt. 35

I am so grateful to be able to come away from the work for a bit and just answer some simple questions. It has been a rather heady week and my mind is still spinning. Thank you Cee for giving me these queries to kind of bring me back to a normal space. It means more than you know.

  • Do you make New Year’s resolutions, or not?  If so, what one have you made and kept from the past?  I don’t usually make New Year’s resolutions as such. But our church has 21 days of fasting and prayer starting at the beginning of every year and I feel like these are times to gather direction from God about what I am to do in the year to come. I suppose the result is the same except if I don’t do what is set out from the fast I kind of feel it’s not just me I’m letting down but God. MAybe that’s better incentive 🙂
  • Do you prefer Nuts or no Nuts?  Depends what it is in. I like nuts in my brownies and they are pretty good on Sundaes but I’m not a big fan of the nut sauce they make for spaghetti (pesto). But maybe you were referring to the emotional kind of nuts? Some days I feel a little nuts and I like that less than pesto. 😉
  • Do you like winter, or not, and why? I love winter. It’s going outside during winter that I abhor.
  • Do you prefer to receive gifts or give them? I like giving and receiving but I love gifts that have a purpose… things I can use and I like to give gifts that others find useful.
