Never confuse self-help with repentance. The roots of these two things are very different. Self help is concerned with personal development, becoming a better person. Repentance is concerned with turning towards God.- JE Lillie
Thank you, Pastor J! So much. This is something that I have thought about, but I didn’t make the connection . .. didn’t quite understand what there was about the self-help that I felt wasn’t right for me. Now I get it! God bless you for another great quote and photo with it! These are really really anointed!
Oh Pastor J–what a blessing to see you put this so succinctly! I know someone who went through EST–that’s his “religion”, self-empowerment, he’s on the thrown. Some days it’s all I can do not to scream at him–what I DID tell him, is that I’m not going to quit talking about all that my God does: for, in and through me! Doncha just love Holy Boldness?!! God bless you BIG–love, sis Caddo
I do love holy boldness. IN our day that holy boldness needs to come out more and more for whatever people think they cannot help themselves. As I told Debbie, “We need Jesus!”
Years ago (before computers) I painted a cartoon-sort poster of a man trying to lift himself by his boot laces. I found it surprising how many children actually tried it! Of course, it is impossible.
While it is true that some people are able to improve their behaviour, it is also true that their nature remains the same. A drunkard can reform himself to a degree, but calls himself a recovering alcoholic.
On the other hand, repentance involves God. Repentance is turning 180* away from the problem and TOWARDS GOD. Once God is involved, anything is possible. When we turn to Him in true repentance, HE CHANGES US . . . He gives us a NEW nature . . . He gives us the mind of Christ . . . He gives us Holy Spirit power.

You are welcome. repentance is always the way to go. In the end we cannot help ourselves anyway. We need Jesus.
What a great quote! May many more walk this path with us. Love the photo. Thanks, Pastor J! I just love your blog.
Thanks Deb! 🙂

What an amazing God!
Indeed He is an amazing God. I am so glad he called me away from trying to solve life myself and into repentance. He is my all in all!
