“Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.” Jude 1:2 KJV
The New Testament epistles generally start with a greeting. This greeting has three parts: The writer’s name and credentials, the name of the intended audience and the blessing. I love the short blessing in Jude. So brief. So powerful.
Jude affirms that those called, loved by the Father and sanctified by Jesus possess three incredible blessings. In fact He tells us that these blessings are multiplied in us…that is they are to be growing exponentially.
He blesses first by saying that mercy is given unto us. That is “eleos” is given unto us- “the mercy of Christ, whereby at his return to judgment he will bless true Christians with eternal life. Further it is kindness or good will towards the miserable and the afflicted, joined with a desire to help them.” BLB Lexicon
I am so blessed because I have a God who desires to help me! No ifs ands or buts about it God is helping me out of my misery and affliction! Now I could float around that thought for a long time but the blessings roll on.
Jude says says that peace is being multiplied unto me. That is “eirene” is being strengthened in me or- the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, of whatsoever sort that is. BlB Lexicon
This is the character God is forming in me and man that just makes me so excited. I am going to get to the place where NOTHING can shake or alarm me.
Finally Jude says that love “agape” is being multiplied in my heart! Oh to love like Jesus loves! Christian these three things are our inheritance. They are not could be’s. They are ought to be’s because these are our blessings in Christ!
Now that preaches!
Wow, Pastor J! I don’t think I’ve ever heard that before–that “peace is being multiplied unto me”–wow. I don’t know about y’all, but I can visualize a time when I might actually love like Jesus loves–When His peace is So Multiplied unto me. It’s all those mixed up, messy, unpeaceful thoughts/feelings that get in my way and cause me to stumble badly when I SO want to love like Him. Thank you for the extra hope I have tonight, as I close out my day!! God bless you abundantly–love, sis Caddo
Thanks you Sis for this encouraging comment! May that extra hope even now be strengthened.
I love the agape part! it sets me on the sideline, and on a receiving mode.
I also Love Judge 1:4
4 For certain men have slipped in stealthily, who were designated long ago for this condemnation, ungodly ones, who change the grace of our God into LICENTIOUSNESS and who DENY our only Master and Lord Jesus Christ.
seems that the accusations is real today. we who preach the gospel are accused of telling people to sin and that Grace is a license to sin.
🙂
– grace and peace
Indeed and some actually do proclaim that we no longer need righteousness or that the fruits of righteousness are just dead religion. When Jesus comes may we be found preaching the rightly divided word of truth!
WOW! This is so powerful, Pastor J. I am glad God is forming my character and I too want to love like Jesus loves. This has really blessed me today. Thank you, Pastor J.
You are welcome Deb! May God bless us all with a love like His made manifest in our lives!
One of things I have noticed and that is every time Paul wrote or greeted his brothers he always gave a word of comfort and love..makes me wonder how come we don’t do that when we greet our brothers and sisters in Christ Jesus.
You are right usually he did do that Desiray except with the Galatians. He kind of laid right into them! 🙂
“I am so blessed because I have a God who desires to help me! ”
And I don’t have to bring Him oxen or lambs ….Thankful for the Sacrifice at Calvary! Hallelujah!!
P.S. I want that multiplied peace and love and mercy!! And I also want to make myself available if He chooses to multiply them to others through me.
Blessings and thanks for sharing
ann
Amen Ann! May we be well springs of God’s blessing to others!
So blessed, strengthened and supercharged by this , Pastor J! Thank you for uplifting us in Jesus! God bless you!
You are welcome! 🙂
