You Can Be Sure Pt. 1

“If you were to die tonight would you go to Heaven?” That question never fails to make people uncomfortable. The whole dying thing aside, the discomfort comes from the fact that so many folks are just plain uncertain about their eternal destination.

But the truth is that you can be certain; You can know that you are going to Heaven. Let’s look at some of the assurances:

1. The Bible makes us sure!

“For God loved the world so much that he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” I John 1:9

The Bible declares that your guarantee of Heaven rests not on what you do but on what God did in sending His Son. All you are required to do is to turn to God and trust Him for forgiveness. The Bible says so. You can be sure!

2. A changed life makes us sure.

While righteous works are not a requirement to go to Heaven they are an inevitable side effect of being saved by Jesus. I am in no way indicating that when you become a Christian you become perfect but there is a progressive change from what you used to be. Have you begun to change? That is a proof. You can be sure!

3. Our consciences being cleansed  makes us sure.

“let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean” Hebrews 10:22

Something happens internally when Jesus forgives our sin and makes us ready for Heaven. Our guilty feelings are washed away. People may still blame us. Earthly consequences may still plague us but in our hearts there is a sense that we have been made right with God.

Let’s pray: God I thank you that I can know I am Heaven bound! I turn to you now and trust you to forgive my sins through Jesus’ death on the cross. I thank you that I am assured of Heaven according to your Bible. I claim a changed life for assurance. I claim a clean conscience! I am sure of my eternal reward! In Jesus Name A-men!

  1. Wow, I just heard a sermon on this very topic. I have been struggling with the whole fact of there will be those who say “lord’lord” but the lord will say to them that he did not know them. This is the 3rd assurance I have received today. God worsk through sermons, friends and blogs. It all comes down to a personal relationship with Jesus. Anyone can give the appearance of religiosity, but only those who obey the Lord and trust completely in Jesus crucified and resurrected for the forgiveness of sins will be saved. Thank you!

  2. Thank you, Pastor J for your prayer today. I claim it today and every day. I pray for those who have yet to receive our Lord and Savior may their spiritual eyes and ears be open. Lord, give them a revelation in their hearts this very day. Let them see and hear only you today. Lord, may your will be done, not mine. A-men!!!

  3. Amen Pastor! I’m so glad I’m sure no doubt whatsoever! Jesus Christ in me is my eternal life right now!
Love you Pastor J. and do have a wonderful day 😀

  4. Thank you for these posts filled with His truth and His promises, that we may know for sure! God bless you as you pray and witness for Him today!

  5. “I can be sure that I am saved (go to heaven) when I accept Jesus” Does this mean we should be concerned about going to heaven, or should we be concerned about doing what Jesus commanded us to do, which is to love one another as He loved us? Did Jesus taught about confessing Him as our Savior, or did He teach about loving our neighbors as ourselves? If serving others is an inevitable side effect of being “Saved”, why do some non-believers have this same “side effect” but are still labeled as “unsaved” and therefore “can be sure” they will not go to heaven? Maybe because they serve others out of self-righteousness? Don’t we all do this, so that we can be approved by God, and therefore be Saved ourselves? I don’t mean to sound antagonistic, just wondering about your thoughts. Thank you. Peace.

    • These are some great questions Noel! I noted I put Pt. 1 on this post which is interesting since I hadn’t planned a Pt. 2. I guess I did it just out of force of habit (I am now so used to writing in Pt. series). Anyway your questions have given me material for more parts! Looking forward to the dialogue! 🙂

  6. For 22 years I never once felt loved, safe, secure, certain about anything.
Then, the Lord Jesus revealed Himself to me and called me to Himself. I was adopted into the family of a loving heavenly Father God, and I was CHANGED.

I became a new person. I knew the power of God in my life and for the past 53 years He has continued His work in me and through me. He has guided and directed me; He has challenged and corrected me; He has encouraged, enabled and strengthened me; He has supplied ALL I need to live for Him.

Could I ever doubt Him? No way!
Could I ever believe I could save myself, change myself? No way!
It was ALL His work and it will be ALL His work when I am presented faultless before the throne. He still has a whole heap of work to do to bring me to that place, but I have every confidence that He will continue the work He has begun.

    Doubt Him? Never!

    What an amazing God!

    • A-men Angela! His work in our lives leaves no room for dispute or doubt. We are new creations. When people look at us and say how much we have changed and slap us on the back as though we deserve some of the credit we know the truth. To God be the glory GREAT THINGS HE HATH DONE!
