“And the LORD said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: You saw for yourselves that I spoke to you from heaven….”Build for me an altar made of earth, and offer your sacrifices to me—your burnt offerings and peace offerings, your sheep and goats, and your cattle. Build my altar wherever I cause my name to be remembered, and I will come to you and bless you.” Ex. 20:22-24 NLT
What a powerful experience the Jews of the Exodus must have had to hear the voice of God rumble like thunder out of Heaven. How frightening and wonderful to see the cloud and hear the voice, to receive the blessing and hear the promise with their own ears.
As good as that was we have it so much better! I may not hear the audible voice until I reach Heaven. I might not see the cloud and the glory with my eyes until Jesus comes again; But I have the Holy Spirit in me! The voice that shuddered through the atmosphere on that day is the still small voice that leads and guides me from within everyday.
Most of those Jews never heard the voice again. They had to rely on a God-ordained prophet to bring the words of God to them. But now, the Holy Spirit speaks to every Christian that cocks a listening ear in His direction !
“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:” John 10:27
Let’s Pray: Dear Lord I know your word says you speak to all your servants who listen for your voice! So speak Lord your servant is listening! Thank you for this awesome privilege! Today I will not only listen, I will obey! In Jesus name A-men.
“I will not only listen, I will obey,” Oh, that is my prayer too, Pastor J! God bless you as He speaks to you today!
Today He is saying so much!
I am glad I chose Jesus for now I too have the awesome privilege of hearing Him speak. May I listen and obey today. Thank you, Pastor J for your prayer today and for this series.
You’re welcome Deb! May His words be a blessing in your ear today!
Thanks for this post my brother
Thanks for reading Paul!
I’d rather be me, here and now, than those back then.
While some evidently knew the REALITY of God and a relationship with Him, this was only given to a privileged few.
Today, we experience God and hear Him speak in a very real way – and an individual way. Today He speaks to me as a loving Father to His beloved child, always desiring my best; sometimes in correction, sometimes in encouragement, sometimes in direction – but always in love.
What an amazing God!
I am with you Angela! How blessed we are to be born into this particular age of biblical history!
He is amazing and I cannot wait until His voice comes clearer and I see Him as He is!
Hi Pastor J,
In the Old Testament times the Holy Spirit moved upon individuals, empowering them to do great exploits for the Lord! But I’m so glad, that the Holy Spirit lives within the city of my soul! God bless you, as you continue to keep your ear to God’s mouth, listening for His still small voice!
A-men Paulette! I am with you…So glad Holy Spirit lives in me!
