Heaven Pt. 19

At sundown he arrived at a good place to set up camp and stopped there for the night. Jacob found a stone to rest his head against and lay down to sleep. As he slept, he dreamed of a stairway that reached from the earth up to heaven. And he saw the angels of God going up and down the stairway….Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the LORD is in this place, and I wasn’t even aware of it!” But he was also afraid and said, “What an awesome place this is! It is none other than the house of God, the very gateway to heaven!” Ge. 28:11-17 NLT

To be in the presence of God is an awesome thing. By awesome I don’t mean “really cool” or “super good”. Those terms are far to flippant to be used of THE PRESENCE. Jacob doesn’t even have a waking experience of the presence of God…just a dream and yet it is enough to shake him to His core. So by awesome I mean the presence of God is so huge and powerful it undoes us.

Reading Jacob’s experience makes me wonder, what will we do when we catch that first glimpse…first real glimpse of the radiance of God’s glory? How long will it take our eyes to adjust to the perfect light? How long will the weight of glory hold us to the ground on our faces prostrate before the King? How will the words awesome and fantastic and wonderful be redefined on that day?

Such thoughts as these have the power to change us now. Imagine how the reality will change us then and rejoice!

Let’s Pray: Dear Lord Jesus thank you for your gift of salvation! Thank you that our home is soon to be in Your Forever Presence. Let the thoughts of my future now  brighten my present circumstances. Help me see beyond this time beyond what I am now to what I shall be on the day I glimpse your face! In Jesus Name A-men.

  1. The anticipation is almost too much to handle to behold His Glory, WOW! Oh, how I can’t wait for that day. Thanks, Pastor J, for this prayer.

  2. That picture is stunning!

And I love these posts, as they have really made me think and ponder. What we picture heaven looking like is such a severe understatement. Great post!

    • Thanks Sarah. The picture was taken outside the church just after last summer’s tornado. The sky did some really funny things this year. So grand! But you are right the Kingdom of our Lord and God will be grander by far!

  3. The thought of being in His ACTUAL presence is waaaaaay beyond comprehension – but it must be quite fearsome for those who have not experienced the REALITY of His presence in everyday life.
I often wonder at people who say that when they get to heaven they are going to seek out this person or that. I can’t get beyond the thought of meeting my Saviour and praising Him.

  4. Wow…

    Thanks, Pastor J

Now you’ve got me thinking bout home :-). Praying alongside you. I know I shan’t be able to control myself when I finally see Him face to face. Till then, I’ll watch and wait.

Beautiful piece. Thanks again for sharing.

    Blessings
    Ann
